An intentional and sound philosophy is behind everything we do at camp. Each 10 person cabin unit is arranged by birth gender, age and grade so everyone is able to maximize friendships and fun. Our campers are treated as unique individuals and we work extremely hard to make sure no one falls between the cracks. Every camper is a valued and important member of our community and we look forward to building a long term relationship with your family. It begins with an emphasis on inclusivity and kindness, parents and campers can feel a unique sense of community the moment they arrive. And because kids learn better when they are relaxed and having fun, we make sure that they are growing in ways and developing new skills more effectively than they could at home, in school, or through organized sports. Using fun and outdoor adventure as our delivery system, we focus on the Camp Highlander Core Values: COURAGE (Dare to Be Brave), HONESTY (Speak Truth in Love), INTEGRITY (Respect Yourself, Others and Nature), and FAITH (Seek Truth and Believe).

With about 90 campers, Killooleet is small enough so everyone comes to know each other and friendships develop between campers of different ages who share interests. Half of our activities are in sports (swimming, boating, archery, softball, soccer, basketball, tennis, horseback riding, ultimate frisbee, etc.) and half in arts (music, art, ceramics, silverwork, drama, video, woodworking, stained glass, fabric). Most campers bring bikes or rent them. We explore the beauty of Vermont during weekly hikes or overnight trips, on foot, bicycle, canoe, and horseback. We create an inclusive community that encourages individual development, welcomes everyone, and minimizes the need to spend energy defending ourselves.

Staff must be available for the full summer, which includes 10 days of staff training, two 4-week terms, and then a one week specialty camp.
Counselors live with campers and teach in a specific activity area. Support Staff work in an specific area such as directors, assistant directors, barn crew, transportation crew, office, stores, media team, childcare, and medical team, and live in Support Staff housing (not with campers).
Room and board is provided for all positions and staff members are expected to live on site. Uniform shirts are provided for days when parents are at camp (3-4 times per term). All staff have one day off and one night off each week.
